Dean Zanetos is a TV and movie producer who currently is chairman of Broadcast 3DTV, Inc. Over the course of a career that has spanned five decades, he has also worked as a screenwriter, director, and camera man. Dean Zanetos served as the producer on the first ever Battlestar Galactica spinoff, Galactica 1980.
Battlestar Galactica initially premiered on American television in 1978 on ABC. Despite running for just one season, Battlestar Galactica has survived until the present day with a number of spinoff series and films. The first spinoff series launched in 1980, shortly after the original series ended. Galactica 1980 aired 10 episodes between January and May before joining the original series in premature cancellation. The legend of both programs endured for several decades before the Sci Fi Channel rebooted Battlestar Galactica as a three part miniseries in 2003, more than 20 years after the original series aired.
After a successful debut, Sci Fi picked up the reboot for a full season. Between October of 2004 and March 2009, Sci Fi aired four seasons of what would go on to be known as the “reimagined universe.” Throughout the airing of the reimagined series and since its end, Battlestar Galactica has lived on with nearly 30 webisodes, two made for television movies, and two spinoff series known titled Caprica and Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome.
