Singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett has sold more than 20 million records and produced 27 studio albums. His catalog of songs is extensive, but none are more popular than Margaritaville, which he has parlayed into a successful brand of resorts and restaurants, with further plans for a Daytona, Florida retirement village called Latitude Margaritaville. Buffett's latest Margaritaville venture, however, is a Broadway musical that features many of his original classics, as well as some new songs.
Escape to Margaritaville debuted in San Diego and will be shown in New Orleans, Houston, and Chicago before hitting Broadway in February 2018. Written by Greg Garcia and Mike O'Malley, the musical comedy centers on a romance between a guitar-playing bartender and a woman who makes him question his easy-going single lifestyle. Escape to Margaritaville is directed by Christopher Ashley, who earned a Tony Award for Come from Away, and stars Alison Luff, Paul Alexander Nolan, and Lisa Howard.
